How much yarn do I need for my project?
Here is how to find out;
1. What sett (or how many ends per inch/centimetre) have you chosen for the yarn you are planning to use?
This can be worked out according to your intended structure from the number of wraps obtained.
2. How wide is your project?
This needs to be in the same units of measurement as your sett (imperial or metric).
3. To find your total number of ends multiply the answers to the two questions above:
Sett x width of warp
(i.e. 24epi x 14” = 336 warp ends)
4. Next multiply your total number of warp ends by the length of warp you have planned (remember this must include an allowance for take-up, shrinkage and the loom waste) and this will give you the total length of yarn required.
Total warp ends x complete length of 1 warp
(i.e. 336 warp ends x 5 metres = 1,680 metres)
All that is left to do now is to check shelf edge labels, or our website under the product description for the the number of metres on the yarn package of your chosen yarn, then divide your total length of yarn by this amount. Voila! you now know how much yarn to purchase.
